ausdotnet mailing list instructions/FAQ

What is the list?

The list is an offshoot of the dotnet@stanski.com mailing list and came about because of continued delays (20 days sometimes), out-of-order delivery, duplicates, dead e-mail addresses, etc. The goal of the new list is to be the same as the old one - except that it works reliably.

Instructions

To subscribe

Send an empty e-mail message to ausdotnet-subscribe@lists.codify.com. You will receive a validation message to confirm your email address, to which you must reply to be subscribed.

To unsubscribe

Send an empty e-mail message to ausdotnet-unsubscribe@lists.codify.com.

To post to the list

Send messages to ausdotnet@lists.codify.com.

Message filtering/Inbox sorting

There is an SMTP header set for list-id which you can filter messages on. This is better than prefixing/munging the subject line.

If you use gmail, GAPE, GAFYD, etc, you can click on "show details" near the message header and then "Filter messages from this mailing list" (pretty cool!).

List Administration

As per David Connors's message to the list 25 Feb:
I appreciate that a lot of people just want a list that works and don't really care how it is run etc. Given this, I have created a new list called ausdotnetadmin for the discussion of administration and directional issues in relation to the list. Anyone is free to join the list with the only requirement being that you are polite and constructive in the input you provide (i.e. I'd had enough of the whiners during the move).

This administrative list means that we can keep all plumbing issues out of the discussion regarding .NET as such administrative issues sometimes have hijacked most of the list traffic.

I would appreciate it if all of you with deep knowledge of SMTP, IIS SMTPSVC, current list management software, current anti-spam/ORB type issues join this list as such issues are bound to surface from time to time and can often be idiosyncractic and difficult to resolve.

Of course, if you don't know any of the above and just want to lurk on the admin list - then please do so :).

The only goal of the admin list is to keep the administrative topics out of the inbox of those who are not interested.

The subscribe address for the administrative list is
ausdotnetadmin-subscribe@lists.codify.com.

List archive

Stephen Price maintains an archive of the list at Google Groups. The list archive can be found at: http://groups.google.com/group/ausdotnetlist.

Support

Any problems with the list should be directed to the list itself in the first instance. If that is not working for you for whatever reason, then please contact us using this form: https://www.codify.com/AboutUs/ContactUs

Where/What/etc is it?

The list is hosted in a data centre in Brisbane in a dedicated 42RU rack belonging to Codify. It is served from Windows Server 2003, IIS, and GFI MailEssentials running in a VM on one of Codify's production Dell 2950 servers. The server has 8 x 2.4Ghz XEON cores, 16 GB of RAM and 2TB of RAID 5 disk. The VM is shipped periodically over a private 100 meg link to another server at Pipe Network's DC2 in Creek Street, Brisbane for backups. The server has 100 meg of full-duplex Ethernet connectivity and BGP routing to diverse upstream providers. That should be sufficient for a mailing list :).
